Terms of Service

Last updated: 16 May 2026

Welcome to Maths Moji! These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Maths Moji website and application (the "Service"), operated by Maths Moji ("we," "us," or "our"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. Please read them carefully.

Maths Moji is a global educational mathematics platform designed for primary school children. While our curriculum content is aligned with the British National Curriculum, the Service is available to schools, teachers, parents, and students worldwide. We are committed to making Maths Moji accessible and safe for every child, wherever they are in the world.

Because Maths Moji is used globally, the laws that apply to data protection, child consent, and educational services vary from country to country. These Terms set out our baseline standards and responsibilities. It is the responsibility of users — including schools, teachers, and parents — to ensure that their use of the Service complies with the laws and regulations of their own country. Please read Section 13 carefully for more detail on this.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By using Maths Moji, you confirm that:

  • If you are a teacher or school administrator, you have the authority to agree to these Terms on behalf of your institution and the students in your care, and that your use of the Service complies with the laws and regulations applicable in your country.
  • If you are a parent or guardian, you have read and accepted these Terms on behalf of your child, and you have satisfied yourself that your child's use of the Service is permitted under the laws of your country.
  • If you are a student registering directly, a parent or guardian has given permission for you to use this Service and create an account, and any consent required by the laws of your country has been obtained.
  • You accept responsibility for ensuring that your use of the Service — including registration, data sharing, and participation in all features — complies with all applicable local laws, including those relating to child data protection, parental consent, and online safety.
  • You agree to use the Service in accordance with these Terms and all applicable laws.

If you do not agree to these Terms, or if you are unable to comply with the laws applicable in your country, please do not use the Service.

2. Who Can Use Maths Moji

2.1 Children and Students

Maths Moji is designed for children, primarily those of primary school age (approximately 5–11 years). Students may register for their own account directly on the Service. When doing so, students are required to provide a first name, last name, a chosen username, and a password.

By registering, students (and where applicable their parents or guardians) confirm that a parent or guardian has given permission for the child to create an account and use the Service. We encourage parents and guardians to be involved in the sign-up process for younger children.

Important — Local Laws: The age at which a child can consent to data processing, or the age below which parental consent is required, varies significantly between countries. For example, this threshold is under 13 in some countries, under 16 in others, and under 20 in Thailand. It is the responsibility of the student, parent or guardian, and school to be aware of the rules that apply in their country and to ensure that the appropriate consent has been obtained before a student registers. If you are unsure, we recommend that a parent or guardian completes the registration process on behalf of the student.

Students should use the Service only for its intended educational purpose and under the general oversight of a teacher, parent, or guardian.

2.2 Teachers and Schools

Teachers and school administrators may use Maths Moji to support classroom learning. When using Maths Moji with students, teachers and schools take responsibility for:

  • Ensuring that their use of the Service — and the registration of students — complies with all applicable laws and regulations in their country, including those relating to child data protection and parental consent.
  • Obtaining any parental or guardian consent required by local law before students register on or use the Service.
  • Ensuring appropriate use of the Service within their educational setting.
  • Keeping student login details secure and managing access responsibly.

Maths Moji provides a platform and content; responsibility for legal compliance within a school's jurisdiction rests with the school and its staff.

2.3 Parents and Guardians

Parents and guardians may support their child in creating an account for home learning. By doing so, you confirm that you have given consent for your child to use the Service, and that this consent satisfies any requirements under the laws applicable in your country.

3. Educational Purpose

Maths Moji is provided solely for educational, non-commercial purposes. The Service, including all content, games, activities, and tools, is intended to support maths learning. While our content is developed in alignment with the British National Curriculum, it is designed to be accessible and beneficial to learners worldwide. The Service must not be used for any purpose other than educational learning and teaching.

4. User Accounts and Registration

4.1 Student Account Registration

Students registering on Maths Moji will be asked to provide the following information during sign-up:

  • First name and last name: Used for internal account identification and for teachers or parents to locate and manage the account. Your full name is not displayed publicly to other users of the Service.
  • Username: A name chosen by the student for use within the Service. Usernames are visible to other users in certain features, including the Battle Mode leaderboard (see Section 4.3 below). Students should not use their real full name as their username.
  • Password: Used to secure access to the account. Passwords are stored securely and are never visible to other users or shared with third parties.

By registering, you confirm that the information provided is accurate and that a parent or guardian has given permission for the student to create an account, and that any consent required under local law has been obtained.

4.2 Username Guidelines

When choosing a username, students should follow these guidelines:

  • Do not use your real full name as your username.
  • Do not use any personal information (such as your school name, address, or phone number) in your username.
  • Choose a fun, appropriate username that you are happy to be seen by others.
  • Usernames must not contain offensive, inappropriate, or harmful language.

We reserve the right to remove or change usernames that are inappropriate or in breach of these guidelines.

4.3 Usernames and Battle Mode Leaderboards

Important: When students participate in Battle Mode, their chosen username will be visible on the leaderboard to other participants in the same session. No other personal information (including first name, last name, or any account details) is displayed to other users.

Parents, guardians, and teachers are encouraged to remind students to choose a username that does not identify them personally before taking part in competitive features.

4.4 Teacher and School Accounts

Teachers and schools registering on behalf of a class or institution are responsible for managing student access, ensuring appropriate use, and keeping login details secure.

4.5 Account Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts at our discretion, particularly where there is evidence of misuse, breach of these Terms, or conduct that is harmful to other users or the integrity of the Service.

5. Acceptable Use

When using Maths Moji, you agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms or applicable local laws.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service or its related systems.
  • Upload, share, or transmit any content that is harmful, offensive, abusive, or inappropriate, particularly given that the Service is used by children.
  • Choose a username that contains offensive, inappropriate, or personally identifying information.
  • Reproduce, redistribute, sell, or commercially exploit any part of the Service or its content without our prior written permission.
  • Attempt to reverse engineer, modify, or create derivative works from any part of the Service.
  • Use automated tools, bots, or scrapers to access or collect data from the Service.
  • Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with any school or organisation.

6. Intellectual Property

All content available through Maths Moji — including but not limited to games, questions, images, characters, graphics, text, and the Maths Moji name and logo — is owned by or licensed to Maths Moji and is protected by applicable copyright and intellectual property laws.

You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any content on the Service without our express written permission. Teachers and schools may use content in the classroom for educational purposes, but may not distribute it commercially or share it externally without permission.

7. Third-Party Services

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or resources. These are provided for convenience only. We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or terms of any third-party sites, and we encourage users — particularly parents and teachers — to review the terms and privacy policies of any external services accessed through or alongside Maths Moji.

8. Availability and Changes to the Service

We aim to keep Maths Moji available at all times, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may update, modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without notice. We will endeavour to provide reasonable notice of any significant changes.

We may also update these Terms from time to time. The date at the top of this document will reflect any changes. Continued use of the Service after updates constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided on an 'as is' and 'as available' basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no warranties or representations about the accuracy, reliability, completeness, or suitability of the content for any purpose.

We do not warrant that the Service will be free of errors, viruses, or interruptions, though we take reasonable steps to ensure security and quality.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Maths Moji shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the Service.

Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.

Maths Moji accepts no liability for any failure by a user, school, teacher, or parent to comply with the laws or regulations applicable in their country. Responsibility for ensuring lawful use of the Service within any given jurisdiction rests with the user.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising directly under these Terms will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, unless local mandatory laws require otherwise.

We recognise that users access Maths Moji from many different countries, each with their own legal requirements. Where the mandatory consumer protection, data protection, or child safety laws of a user's country grant rights that cannot be excluded by contract, those rights are not affected by these Terms. In all cases, responsibility for compliance with local law rests with the user, school, or institution accessing the Service from that jurisdiction.

13. International Users — Local Laws and Compliance

This section is important for all users outside the United Kingdom. Maths Moji is available globally and welcomes users from every country. However, we are not able to monitor or enforce compliance with the laws of every jurisdiction in which our Service is used. It is your responsibility — as a school, teacher, parent, guardian, or student — to ensure that your use of Maths Moji complies with the laws that apply in your country.

13.1 Your Responsibility to Comply with Local Law

By using the Service, you confirm that you have taken reasonable steps to understand and comply with the laws and regulations applicable to your use of Maths Moji in your country. This includes, but is not limited to, laws relating to:

  • Child data protection: Many countries have laws that restrict the collection and processing of personal data relating to children, and that require parental or guardian consent before a child can register for or use an online service.
  • Parental consent age thresholds: The age at which parental consent is required for a child to use an online service varies between countries. You are responsible for knowing the applicable age threshold in your country and ensuring the required consent has been obtained before a student registers.
  • School and institutional requirements: Some countries require schools to follow specific procedures before using third-party digital services with students, such as data processing agreements, parental notification, or government approval. Schools are responsible for satisfying any such requirements.
  • Data transfer restrictions: Some countries restrict the transfer of personal data to other countries. If you are in a country with such restrictions, you should satisfy yourself that your use of Maths Moji is consistent with those rules.
  • Online safety regulations: Rules around child safety online, age verification, and acceptable digital content for minors may vary. Users are responsible for ensuring compliance with any such regulations in their country.

13.2 What Maths Moji Does to Support Compliance

While responsibility for local legal compliance rests with users, Maths Moji is designed with child safety and data minimisation at its core. Our baseline standards include:

  • We collect only the minimum personal data necessary to operate the Service (first name, last name, username, and password for student accounts).
  • Student real names are never visible to other users. Only usernames are visible, and only in specific features such as Battle Mode.
  • We do not display advertising to users of the Service.
  • We do not sell personal data.
  • Passwords are stored using industry-standard encryption and are never accessible in plain text.
  • We maintain technical and organisational security measures to protect all user data.

These practices are designed to meet or exceed the requirements of major international data protection frameworks, including the UK GDPR, the EU GDPR, and similar laws globally. However, they do not replace the need for users to comply with their own local requirements.

13.3 Parental Consent — A Guide for International Users

As a general principle, we require that a parent or guardian has given permission before any child registers on Maths Moji. The specific age below which parental consent is required varies by country. Some examples are provided below for reference only — this list is not exhaustive and legal requirements may change:

  • Under 13: Required in countries including the United States (COPPA), Australia, and several others.
  • Under 16: Required in many European countries under the EU GDPR (the default threshold), including Germany, France, the Netherlands, and others.
  • Under 13 (UK): The UK Age Appropriate Design Code sets the default age at 13 for most online services, though the broader data protection framework may require consent for users up to 18 in some contexts.
  • Under 20 (Thailand): The Thailand PDPA defines a minor as any person under the age of 20. Parental or guardian consent is required for all students in this age group. Students under 10 require documented consent and we recommend a parent or guardian completes registration on the child's behalf.

If you are unsure of the applicable threshold in your country, we recommend treating any student under 18 as requiring parental or guardian consent, and involving a parent or guardian in the registration process.

13.4 Responsibility of Schools Using Maths Moji Internationally

Schools and educational institutions using Maths Moji with students take on the following responsibilities regardless of their country:

  • Verifying that they are legally permitted to use Maths Moji with students in their jurisdiction, including under any applicable data protection, child safety, or educational technology laws.
  • Obtaining any parental or guardian consent required by local law before students register on or use the Service.
  • Notifying parents and guardians about the Service, including what data is collected, how it is used, and that usernames are visible to other students during Battle Mode.
  • Retaining records of consent in accordance with local legal requirements.
  • Contacting us promptly at www.mathsmoji.com or [email protected] if a student appears to have registered without the required consent so that the account can be reviewed or removed.
  • Entering into any data processing or data sharing agreements required by local law before using the Service with students.

13.5 If Your Country's Laws Cannot Be Met

If the laws of your country are such that Maths Moji cannot be used in compliance with them — for example, if your country requires specific technical measures, local data storage, or government approvals that we do not currently offer — then you should not use the Service until those requirements can be satisfied. We are happy to discuss specific requirements with schools or institutions; please contact us at www.mathsmoji.com or [email protected].

13.6 Updates to This Section

International data protection and child safety laws are evolving rapidly. We will update these Terms as needed to reflect significant changes. Users are responsible for staying informed about changes to the laws applicable in their own country and for adjusting their use of the Service accordingly.

These Terms of Service were prepared for general guidance purposes and reflect Maths Moji's commitment to child safety and data protection. Because Maths Moji is used in many countries, each with different legal requirements, these Terms cannot exhaustively cover every applicable law. Maths Moji strongly recommends that schools and institutions seek independent legal advice in their jurisdiction before deploying the Service, particularly regarding child data protection, parental consent, and data transfer obligations. Responsibility for local legal compliance rests with the user.
